As an immigrant and native Spanish speaker, I grew up in a world that was not made for me and felt the lack of services available to my family and community, so I decided to help create change. I am now an advocate for accessibility of mental health services for the Spanish speaking community and I work to de-stigmatize mental health in the Latinx community. I am passionate about supporting my community and other underserved communities.
I am deeply committed to creating inclusive and equitable communities. This means that I practice in an anti-racist, and trauma informed way, supporting individuals and validating their experiences, without judgement.
My Experience
I completed by Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work (BSW) from Portland State University and went on to complete my Master’s of Social Work (MSW) also from Portland State University in 2019. In May of 2022 I gained my license and became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Oregon. In school I had a clinical focus and took classes around Grief and Loss, Intimate Partner Violence, Abuse and Trauma, and Oppression and Privilege.
I also want to note that I understand that higher education is a huge privilege. A privilege I did not think I would ever experience having growing up undocumented. Once I knew school was an option for me I decided to use it to benefit my community. I am extremely proud to have been able to graduate with a Masters degree and join the only 3% of Latina women with an advanced degree, and even more proud to be able to use it to benefit undersupported communities.
